About David Axinn

My family has been in Putnam Valley for three generations. My earliest memories are of spending summer days on Lake Oscawana. In 2007, my wife and I made the dream happen and purchased our own place and our attachment has grown deeper. We are a small town with big personalities and many viewpoints. Despite our differences, we are all connected to this town and want to see it thrive.

Why I’m Running for Town Justice

I am motivated by the simple idea that a Town Justice should strive to make each individual’s experience with the Town Court fair and accessible. As a lawyer who has practiced throughout the court system, I know that the process can feel intimidating. My career has been focused on building trust in our public institutions. I’d like to bring that same approach to our Town Court.

Legal Experience in New York

I’ve been a New York commercial litigator, a financial regulator and a corporate compliance officer.
As an appellate litigator, I’ve argued at every court level in this State.

Public Service

I’ve worked for the People of the State of New York with a focus on government integrity and consumer protection. I’ve served as a Deputy Bureau Chief for the Attorney General’s Public Integrity Bureau and led major cases to protect New Yorkers against public corruption and financial fraud. I am also an adjunct professor of Insurance Regulation and Solvency at University of Connecticut Law School.

Head of the New York Liquidation Bureau

Since 2016, I’ve been the head of an organization that serves the public interest by protecting policyholders of insolvent insurance companies. I answer my own phone and take the time to make sure that the public’s questions are answered. I have worked tirelessly to make the office more transparent and to push for the timely payment of insurance claims.
